On June 17, 2025, London police uncovered the brutal stabbing of Annabel Rook, a beloved charity worker whose life's work was helping women escape abuse. Annabel Rook, 46, was found with multiple stab wounds in her home on Dumont Road in Stoke Newington. "She gave her life to helping the vulnerable and the disadvantaged, whether it was in refugee camps in Africa or setting up MamaSuze in London, to enhance the lives of survivors of forced displacement and gender-based violence," her family said in a statement issued through police and reported by the BBC.

The incident occurred in Stoke Newington, a vibrant area in North London known for its community spirit and creative energy. But on that Tuesday morning, the neighborhood was jolted awake by the blast and the chaos that followed. Six fire engines and 40 firefighters responded to the explosion, which ripped through the home's structure and led to the evacuation of surrounding properties.
